Do you and your spouse keep having the same argument over and over again? Maybe you feel like you are walking on eggshells, longing to be heard, understood, and emotionally connected again. Maybe there has been broken trust, infidelity, ongoing conflict, or the painful feeling that your marriage is at a turning point.
When a relationship feels stuck or in crisis, waiting week after week for progress can feel overwhelming. Traditional weekly counseling is valuable, but sometimes couples need more focused time than one hour can provide.
A marriage intensive allows you to step away from everyday distractions and receive extended counseling support in a concentrated amount of time. For example, a six-hour intensive provides the equivalent of about six weekly counseling sessions in one day. This is work that could otherwise take a month and a half to complete through weekly sessions.
This gives couples time to slow down, go deeper, identify painful patterns, and begin working toward repair and reconnection without feeling rushed.
Marriage intensives are designed for couples who want focused support, meaningful progress, and space to begin rebuilding connection sooner rather than later.
Weekly counseling can be very helpful, but some couples need more focused time than a traditional session can provide — especially when the relationship feels stuck, distant, or in crisis.
A couples intensive allows you and your spouse to receive extended, uninterrupted counseling with Dr. Torres in a concentrated amount of time. While it is not a “quick fix,” an intensive creates space for deeper work, honest conversations, and meaningful progress that may take much longer in weekly sessions alone.
During the intensive, Dr. Torres helps you identify the negative patterns that keep creating conflict or distance, understand the deeper emotions and needs underneath those patterns, and begin communicating in ways that feel safer and easier to receive.
Instead of continuing the same painful cycle, couples are given time to slow down, listen differently, and begin reaching for one another again. For many couples, this focused time becomes a turning point — a place where repair begins, forgiveness becomes possible, and a clearer path forward starts to take shape.
The goal is to help couples de-escalate conflict, rebuild emotional connection, and begin moving toward healing, trust, and reconnection with intentional support.
Refreshing Times Counseling Center offers 2–5 day Intensive Care Sessions for couples who need more focused time than traditional weekly counseling can provide. Intensives may be held at our Grand Prairie office or at White Bluff Resort in Whitney, Texas, depending on the couple’s needs, goals, and desired setting. After your initial session, Dr. Torres will discuss the available intensive options with you and make a personalized recommendation based on what she feels would be most beneficial for your relationship at that time.
Our Grand Prairie office intensives are a good fit for couples who want extended counseling time without traveling for a retreat. These shorter intensives are helpful for couples who need focused support around communication, conflict, emotional disconnection, or a specific relationship concern. Office intensives are scheduled in extended blocks of time and may be customized based on the couple’s needs.
The White Bluff Resort intensive is designed to feel different from a traditional appointment. Instead of coming in for a session and immediately returning to everyday life, couples are invited to step into a retreat-style environment where they can remain present with the work they are doing.
This setting allows couples to have counseling time with Dr. Torres, time to reflect between sessions, and space to spend intentional time together. For many couples, the change of environment helps create a sense of focus, calm, and openness that can be difficult to access in the middle of normal routines.
Every couple’s story is different, and every intensive is shaped around the couple’s needs, goals, and readiness for the work. During your consultation, Dr. Torres will help determine which option may be the best fit for your relationship. The schedule, number of counseling hours, retreat structure, and recommended next steps may be customized based on what would be most helpful for you as a couple. Additional counseling hours may be available upon request and at Dr. Torres’ discretion.

Marriage intensives are priced differently than regular weekly counseling because they require extended reserved time, preparation, customized materials, off-site coordination when applicable, and concentrated clinical care.
The investment reflects not only the counseling hours, but the focused nature of the experience and the extended time set aside specifically for the couple.
Payment is required to reserve an intensive. Intensive payments are non-refundable once submitted, due to the extended time being reserved specifically for the couple.
If you are unsure which intensive option is right for you, we encourage you to schedule a consultation.
During the consultation, Dr. Torres will discuss your relationship concerns, goals for the intensive, recommended format, scheduling options, and total investment.
Whether you choose a shorter office-based intensive or a retreat-style experience at White Bluff Resort, our goal is to provide a safe and focused space for your marriage to begin moving toward healing, clarity, and reconnection.
